Contribute to EU 2030 climate ambition increase
The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather views on the EU’s 2030 climate ambition increase and the actions and policy designs needed for this. Increasing EU climate ambition is an important step towards climate-neutrality by 2050, as proposed through the European Green Deal.
Another major element of the European Green Deal in line with the 2050 target, is the development of a comprehensive plan to increase the EU’s 2030 climate target. The plan will be put forward by September this year and will propose to increase the EU’s target to at least 50% and towards 55% greenhouse gas emission reductions (compared to the current target of 40%). Additionally, it will be proposed to put this target into EU law.
Since increasing climate ambitions needs to be supported by all actors on the ground, policies must be designed in an appropriate way. This public consultation provides all stakeholders with the opportunity to contribute their views and ideas on the actions needed to achieve greater emission reductions in the EU. Input can be provided directly and even in the form of position papers, policy briefs, sectoral roadmaps and studies. The consultation will be open until 23 June 2020.
