The European Commission has launched a consultation aimed at citizens, organisations and public authorities as part of a Fitness Check of environmental policy monitoring and reporting obligations. The Fitness Check will identify additional information that is required, as well as existing reporting requirements that can be scaled back or met in a more efficient way. The consultation is intended to help the Commission evaluate which principles it should use for assessing environmental reporting requirements, gather views and examples regarding whether reporting requirements are in line with those principles and gather evidence of shortcoming, overlaps and potential for improvements.
