LIFE 2020 call for proposals

LIFE 2020

The European Commission has launched the 2020 call for project proposals under the LIFE programme. Projects can be submitted under the Environment or the Climate Change sub programmes.

Who?

Over €450 million has been made available for projects throughout Europe that focus on the environment, nature and climate action. Proposals can be submitted by any entity registered in the EU, such as public bodies, private commercial organisations and private non-commercial organisations. LIFE projects are very flexible in how they are set up; projects can be run by a single organisation, or with partners the same or other countries. If you’re looking for partners to run a project with, there are several tools you can use; the Research and Innovation Participant Portal, the European Enterprise Network, the CARE partnering tool, and the C-Energy 2020 Partner Search Facility.

NGOs can, next to applying for the LIFE action grant, apply for operating grants. The legal base for this is the LIFE Regulation:

“Operating grants shall support certain operational and administrative costs of non-profit making entities which pursue an aim of general Union interest, are primarily active in the field of environment or climate action and are involved in the development, implementation and enforcement of Union policy and legislation.” (Article 21 of the Regulation).

How?

On 30 April 2020, 9:00-18:00 the European Commission is organising a virtual information day on the 2020 LIFE call for proposals. You can register for this event here. Furthermore, several measures have been taken to make applying easier in these times of coronavirus restrictions. For more information about these measures and deadlines for the different types of proposals, please visit the LIFE Programme website.
