New online viewer for protected areas launched

The Digital Observatory for Protected Areas (DOPA) has been developed to help make biodiversity data, information and forecasts readily accessible to policymakers, site managers, and other experts. DOPA is a web-based service that provides a set of free tools to assess, monitor and forecast the state of and pressure on protected areas at local, regional and global scale. DOPA Explorer 1.0 has now been released and covers nearly 16, 000 protected areas. It is available to access in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

DOPA Explorer 1.0 will help site managers identify those protected areas with the most unique ecosystems and species, and assess the pressures from human development. It also helps to highlights the protected areas for which information is unavailable or incomplete.

Find out more about the initiative on the DOPA website, access DOPA Explorer 1.0, and download the DOPA Explorer 1.0 technical report.
