Good news for Europe’s natural heritage, the latest calls for “traditional” LIFE environment projects has resulted in over 1500 concept notes from across the EU. Together, the projects cover about €2.8 billion in co-financing and €5.1 billion in totall to protect nature and the environment.

The submissions present a new historical record, showing the increasing attention for environmental topics throughout Europe. Divided over the three subtopics, 56% of the submissions cover environment and resource efficiency, 28% cover nature and biodiversity and 16% cover environmental governance and nature.

Based on these concept notes, the European Commission will make a pre-selection and inform applicants of this in November 2020. Applicants can then start working on their full proposals and submit them by February 2021.

The call for LIFE climate action project proposals is still open. Deadline for submitting full proposals is 6 October 2020.
