Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland

Parks & Wildlife Finland (former Natural Heritage Services) is a unit of state-owned enterprise Metsähallitus. Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland is in charge of public administration services which include:
• nature conservation
• facilities and services for outdoor recreation
• hunting and fishing services
• protected area management planning.

They protect and manage species, habitats and cultural heritage in state-owned protected areas and provide outdoor recreation services for hikers, hunters and fishers and grant land use permits. Their services are largely financed from the national government budget. They work with various partners on projects where their public funding is used to leverage wider funding and benefits.

Income from fishing and hunting permits is used to manage hunting grounds and fishing waters. Local businesses provide tourism services near the attractions.

Finland´s 39 national parks welcomed 2.6 million visitors in 2015. Their spending benefited local economies by a total of 142 million euros.
