Donate to the Healthy Seas crowdfunding campaign and help save the lives of marine animals
Abandoned fishing nets make up one-tenth of the plastic marine litter that can now be found in every ocean on the planet. These abandoned fishing nets continue to ‘ghost fish’, capturing and killing marine animals. The Healthy Seas initiative, co-founded by Eurosite member ECNC, recovers these fishing nets from the sea and coasts. The nets are then recycled into nylon fabric, which is used to create high-quality yarn and diverse products, such as carpets, socks and swim wear!
This fantastic initiative has launched a crowdfunding campaign, targeting Belgium and the Netherlands, to raise 15,000 euros, which will be used to clean fishing nets from the North Sea.
Doners will receive rewards, from a pair of Healthy Seas socks to a diving trip. Take a look at the Healthy Seas crowdfunding page (in Dutch) to find out more and make a donation today!
