Explore the most beautiful nature in the Netherlands using Google Street View

Thanks to a unique collaboration between Natuurmonumenten and Google, from 2016 you will be able to explore the most beautiful nature in the Netherlands from your sofa. Google will make 25 Natuurmonumenten areas accessible via Google Street View.

The launch of the partnership took place in October on the Wadden island of Griend. This protected natural island is uninhabited and not normally accessible to people. Griend is a haven for tens of thousands of birds and gray seals have their young there. With a portable camera, the ‘Trekker’, Google recorded the island. These images will be made available later this year via Google Street View. From 2016 nature, estates and forts in the rest of the Netherlands will follow. “A wonderful collaboration and a first for Dutch nature! Obviously, we hope that these images inspire people to visit all these beautiful places,” said Marc van den Tweel, CEO of Natuurmonumenten.

“We are delighted with this beautiful collaboration with Natuurmonumenten. Some areas are restricted to the public, so that nature can take its course. By joining forces with Natuurmonumenten it is possible for anyone to view these beautiful places from their living room, thereby respecting nature,” said Pim van der Feltz, Director of Google Netherlands.

Volunteers sought:

In 2016 Natuurmonumenten will start capturing the remaining 24 natural areas. For this huge task they are seeking the help of volunteers. If you want to explore the most beautiful places in the Netherlands sign up as a Street View Volunteer!
