Do you want to get experience at an international conservation organisation protecting the world’s wetlands? This is your opportunity. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) is looking for an International Engagement Intern to support work on Wetland Link International (WLI) and World Wetland Network (WWN), develop relationships with other wetland conservation organisations, research and develop tools for members to use and to encourage sharing and communication across their membership. The candidate will be placed at the wetland centre at Slimbridge, UK.

The WWT is the UK’s leading wetlands conservation charity and a strong worldwide institute for science and conservation in this field. The organisation focusses on saving critically endangered species, works with communities from around the world who depend on wetlands and aims to inspire people to take care of nature. Furthermore, the organisation has several wetland sites under their wing, which helps to support and protect endangered species.

The intern will be part of the International Engagement Team. WWT works on this topic through leading, among other projects, on WLI and the WWN. WLI acts as a support network for wetlands education centres to improve communications, education and public awareness (CEPA). WWN is a global network of civil society organisations and NGOs that works to amplify their voices at Ramsar COPs. Here, WWT currently acts as a deputy chair and regional representative.

The position will last for up to one year, to end in June 2021. It is open to recent graduates or early career professionals in conservation science. The role will mostly involve communication activities through website, social media and translations, as well as expanding the reach of WWN and WLI. The programme can be adjusted to the intern’s skills and needs.

The internship is an unpaid position, but WWT offers to provide two return flights to the intern’s home country, support for food expenses and accommodation. The internship will be supervised by WWN’s secretary, Connor Walsh. The deadline for application is 17 April.
