From 12 to 15 March 2018 the Pennine PeatLIFE has hosted a Eurosite’s Economics and Ecosystem Services Working Group’s knowledge exchange on peatland restoration. Twelve participants from the Eurosite Network, coming from Finland, Croatia and the Netherlands, had the opportunity to visit the sites where the Pennine PeatLIFE project is conducting innovative peatland restoration techniques. Next to the site visits, there were plenty of opportunities to present and discuss the different approaches taken in Finland and the Netherlands, as well as to learn about the details of the Peatland Code and how it could be used to support the restoration efforts. The visit was also an excellent opportunity for the members of the Working Group to come together for a meeting in person. Additionally, a first exchange visit in a Twinning signed last year at the Eurosite’s Annual Meeting, between Pennine PeatLIFE and the Finnish Hydrology LIFE project was realised. As it turns out, there is a lot of knowledge on peatland restoration within the Eurosite Network, and we plan to seek ways to disseminate this knowledge broader.
