Special newsletter issue Marine and Coastal Protected Areas

DSC_0065

The ocean and seas provide important benefits to people, including food, oxygen, economic opportunities, recreation, and cultural value. Marine and coastal protected areas (MCPAs) can be a powerful tool to protect, and possibly restore, the ability of ecosystems to provide these benefits. Sharing ideas and good practices is part of an MCPA manager’s everyday life. Eurosite fosters networking with a dedicated Marine and Coastal Protected Areas Working Group, which published their first special issue with interesting articles and the announcement of the first in a series of factsheets on MCPA sites.

The first Eurosite Marine and Coastal Protected Areas Factsheet is about Lundy Island. This island is the largest in the Bristol Channel between England and Wales, and a showcase for MPAs and marine wildlife. More factsheets will follow in due course, aiming to reflect the diversity of the MCPA network.
