The teams of Conservatoire du littoral, PIM Initiative and SMILO association proudly announce CELEBRATE ISLAND’s 4th edition, which will focus on Sustainable Tourism.

Since 2014, small islands have been put under the spotlight at a global scale thanks to this event, which takes place at the same time as the International Day for Biological Diversity. Dozens of small-scale awareness-raising campaigns, celebrations, cultural activities, scientific and scholar initiatives have been organized in the seven seas to spread the word about the fragility and uniqueness of island territories.

Whether you are directly involved in island management, institutional representatives, scientists, an NGO, or simply fond of islands, we invite you to talk about your islands by taking action locally. You have a vast array of options to raise awareness on sustainable tourism: guided tours to promote ecosystems or historic and cultural heritage, sustainable tourism activities, conferences, workshops and talks, waste collection campaigns… it’s your call, and a great opportunity both to promote your unique island and gather different stakeholders!

To help you out, Conservatoire du littoral, PIM Initiative and SMILO can offer you free of charge the 2017 edition of the collaborative exhibition “Small islands, sustainable development pioneers”: stunning high-resolution, professional pictures, with multilingual captions, highlighting best practices in island management. For further information and to check out the catalogue, please contact international@conservatoire-du-littoral.fr

Additionally, the organisers have developed an awareness-raising practical tool: a large format poster “I’m visiting a small island“ for you to put up in strategic tourist spots (boat/ferry, harbour offices, tourist office, so on and so forth), for visitors to know how to behave adequately and help protect these fragile territories.
