UPDATE: PLEASE NOTE THAT THE IN-PERSON EVENT IS CANCELLED.
An e-mail has been sent to all participants. The Annual General Meeting for members will take place online on 7 December from 14:30 – 16:00 CET.

We are thrilled to announce that the 2021 Eurosite Annual Meeting will take place in person! This year, we will meet from 6 to 8 December at Món Sant Benet near Barcelona. Eurosite members and key partners will soon receive a personal invitation via email for two days of networking, excursions, workshops, plenaries, and socialising.

The Eurosite Annual Meeting will kick off in the evening of 6 December with a welcome reception by our hosts, the Fundació Catalunya la Pedrera, at their beautiful headquarters – the famous Gaudí building “Casa Mila” in Barcelona. In the morning of 7 December, we will visit prime examples of private and civic land conservation projects in Catalunya. In the afternoon, the Annual Assembly of Eurosite members will take place at Món Sant Benet (an alternative programme will be offered to non-members). After that, we will convene in parallel Eurosite Working Group and LIFE ELCN/ENPLC project meetings and give our members and partners the opportunity to “speed-date” with one another. The day will end with a gala dinner and the famous Euro-Cocktail. On 8 December, we will continue our Working Group and project meetings before looking ahead at what 2022 will bring for Eurosite in a final plenary.

If you received an invitation and plan to register, please make sure to read the Terms and Conditions before you do so.

    Background

Networks help communities of practitioners to evolve and to grow. They provide their members with a sense of belonging – and by doing so, they support their community, strengthen and nurture it. In the case of Eurosite, our community has always been that of European protected area and natural site managers. In the last years, the increasing relevance of involving the private and civic sector in site-based nature conservation has driven us to look for better ways of working together with local stakeholders, landowners and land users in the conservation and restoration of natural areas. We have widened our scope explicitly beyond the borders of protected areas and include all people and organisations interested in site-based nature conservation in our network, both inside and outside the European Union. This is reflected in the change of our network’s name in 2019 to Eurosite – the European Land Conservation Network. We invite both public and private organisations a well as individuals become part of a growing community of European land and nature conservation practitioners.

Eurosite’s focus on working together with private stakeholders in natural site management has resulted in two LIFE projects dealing with private land conservation: LIFE ELCN and LIFE ENPLC. This year’s Eurosite Annual Meeting will convene the consortium partners of these projects. Private land conservation will be the lead theme of the excursions and will be discussed in several Working Group meetings. We thus consider the Eurosite Annual Meeting as part one of our final conference of the LIFE ELCN project. The second part will take place virtually, together with the Global Congress of the International Land Conservation Network on 9 and 10 December.
