Eurosite webinar: Improving the accuracy of bird counts in ImageJ — an open source software programme
Event date: 02 July 2020
Carrying out field counts of any species, plant or animal, can be fraught with difficulties. This webinar focuses primarily on illustrating the unacceptably high levels of observer variation associated with bird counts and how this variation can be minimised using an open source program called ImageJ to process images collected by conventional ‘hand-held’ photography, drones or light aircraft. ImageJ was originally developed for use in hospitals, e.g. for counting red and white blood cells, cancer cells etc., but can be adapted for counting anything that we can identify in an image, including birds and flowering plants.
