Who will fix the broken CAP? Recipe for a Living Land
Brussels, 11 May 2017
The EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) still eats up around 38% of the EU budget – more than 55 billion EUR – every year. The CAP does not help farmers and rural communities meet the current challenges facing the sector and it remains a major driver of environmental damage by supporting agricultural practices which undermine the natural resources farmers rely on – threatening Europe’s ability to produce the food it needs.
The ‘Who will fix the broken CAP?’ conference will show that to build a truly sustainable food and farming system, we need a new policy framework that takes all aspects of the food chain into account: from the impact of food production on our climate and the environment, to consumption and public health.
