Embracing Estuaries – workshop results published
The two-day workshop “Embracing Estuaries – Management of Natura 2000 sites in Estuaries and Sea Ports” was part of the Biogeographical Process of the Atlantic Region. The workshop’s main goal was to encourage dialogue between scientists, practitioners and policymakers, and to encourage their collaboration on the challenges of managing Natura 2000 sites and implementing management plans in estuaries and sea ports.
In December 2012, an Atlantic Seminar was held as part of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process of the Atlantic Region. During this meeting, all Member States were asked to propose specific recommendations for improving the conservation status of priority target habitats. Furthermore they were asked to initiate cross-border activities. As Germany was leading the working group on estuaries in the context of the Biogeographical Process, they offered to hold a thematic networking event on Natura 2000 management planning regarding estuaries. Therefore, Stiftung Lebensraum Elbe organised this workshop on their behalf. Eurosite supported the workshop as part of their Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process involvement.
The outcomes of the workshop, including the presentations, photos and the conference proceedings, can be found on the Stiftung Lebensraum Elbe website.
